The presentation will address strategies that support communication for persons living with dementia.

Language and communication are impaired in individuals living with dementia, creating barriers for health and family care providers to establish and to maintain close personal connections. Established and emerging evidence exists on how to engage in and to enhance person-centred communication for those living with dementia.

Dr. J.B. Orange is a Professor Emeritus and a Adjunct Research Professor in the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Western University, London ON Canada.

Several of Dr. Orange’s current funded research studies include investigations comparing and contrasting the linguistic, cognitive, and neuroimaging profiles of persons living with Alzheimer’s dementia, several subtypes of frontotemporal lobe dementia, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, vascular cognitive impairment, and Parkinson’s disease, especially for those with hearing, vision, and both hearing and vision impairments.
